Uber is on a mission to evolve into a super app and it’s hiring top tech talent to make it happen. But how much is the company willing to pay for these roles?

While most people associate Uber with its millions of gig workers driving passengers or delivering food for Uber Eats, the ride-hailing giant is also expanding into new areas. That includes investments in self-driving technology, more integrated services, and personalized customer offers. At one point last year, Uber even explored a potential acquisition of Expedia, though no deal came to fruition.

“We’re slowly moving towards a super app of sorts,” CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said.

Like many tech companies, Uber has taken a more financially cautious approach to corporate headcount in recent years. Still, its appetite for talent remains strong.

Uber’s Current Hiring Push

In early August 2025, Uber had close to 800 open positions on its careers website, with the largest number of vacancies in engineering, operations, and sales.

The company is also actively hiring through the H-1B visa program. In the first half of this year alone, Uber filed nearly 500 applications with the US Department of Labor a significant jump from about 350 filings in the same period of 2024.

Among the most common H-1B roles Uber sought were data scientists, operations research analysts, and software developers.

These filings, required for all foreign hires, publicly disclose base salary ranges but do not include stock options, bonuses, or other benefits that can significantly increase total compensation. They also provide industry-average pay figures for US workers.

Here’s a breakdown of what Uber disclosed for several key tech roles in 2025:

1. Computer and Information Systems Managers — Up to $360,000

  • Staff Software Engineer: $225,200 – $258,800

  • Manager, Engineering: $235,100 – $287,000

  • Senior Software Engineer: $151,819 – $235,500

  • Senior Applications Developer: $187,800 – $209,700

Uber’s salary data reveals that while the company maintains competitive pay for high-demand tech roles, top earners particularly senior engineers and managers can command base salaries well into the $200,000–$300,000 range before factoring in equity and bonuses.

As Uber pushes toward its “super app” ambitions, attracting and retaining such talent will likely be key to staying ahead in the increasingly competitive mobility and tech landscape.
